When
I met Antoine Gaber and saw his work for the first time at
the Florence Biennale 2005 his paintings of flowers impressed
me, in particular a piece called, Poppies in the Garden 7,
for its use of texture and its combination of color.
I
enjoyed the wide range of blues and greens, the sparks of
yellow, and the magnificent way he used his reds.
In addition
of being an accomplished painter, Antoine Gaber is also a
clinical researcher, who has dedicated most of his professional
life to cancer research. He established the Antoine Gaber
Cancer Foundation and has created several exhibits to benefit
cancer research.
Though
I admire Antoine’s philanthropic efforts, I believe
his works do not need to be associated to a cause to be appreciated.
They stand alone as a powerful affirmation that the pursuit
of beauty is now more important than ever.
