In December 2003, as one of Canada’s chosen artist, Gaber accepted to represent Canada and display his art work at one of the most prestigious European exhibition, the Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea, in Florence, Italy. Participation in the Biennale is only by nomination by theInternational Scientific Committee of Critics, now numbering almost fifty members from around the world. Over 891 artists, painters, sculptors and photographers from over 72 nations participated in the world’s most comprehensive exhibition of Contemporary Art. The Biennale Exhibition has featured work by such distinguished figures as Charles, Prince of Wales and well known actress Gina Lollobrigida. Artworks were considered by an International Jury, which comprises distinguished art and museum curators and contemporary art critics. Nominated works were to meet specific criteria set down by Cultural Departments formed by art scholars, before the final approval to exhibit was decided by the Biennale Organising Committee.

The respected patrons of the event were the President of the Republic of Italy, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador of the United States of America for the region of Tuscany, the Community of Florence and finally, the United Nations Program for improving dialogue among Civilisations.

At the Florence Exhibition, Gaber’s art works received several positive critiques by some of the well-established Art Critics. These same critics are also members of the Florence Biennale Internazionale dell’Arte Contemporanea International Jury such as, Prof. John T. Spike, Director of the Florence Biennial of Contemporary Art, Critic, art Historian (New York), and Prof. Matty Roca, Critic, art Historian (Mexico), and also a Member of the International Art Critics Association (AICA).

During the exhibition, Prof. Pasquale Celona, President of the Florence Biennale, awarded Antoine Gaber with the prestigious Prize of the “Lorenzo il Magnifico”, in recognition of Gaber’s artistic career.

Upon Gaber’s return from his art exhibition in Italy, Gaber was featured in the widely distributed Canadian Newspaper, The National Post. The investment journalist, writing in the Investing, Financial Post section, highlighted that Gaber’s paintings’ overall value increased at an annual compound rate of 38% when compared to the Standard and Poor’s Market Index (S&P500) average return of 7% per year over the same period (1997-2003). For investors wishing to diversify their portfolio beyond stocks, buying art is a smart move. Bondholders get an even greater diversification benefit from investing in art. This is the first publication, in which any artist has presented several years of data demonstrating the actual performance of his artwork when compared to the S&P 500.
