et imaginative, élaborée d'un design convexe, dans
une des plus prestigieuses expositions européennes, la
5ième Édition de la Biennale Internazionale dell'Arte
Contemporanea de Florence, en Italie.

Quelques
768 artistes provenant de 74 nations ont présenté
plus de 2000 œuvres d'art. Le Comité Scientifique
International, composé de 20 membres, évalua les
travaux dans les catégories peinture, sculpture, graphisme,
media mixte, installation, photographie et art numérique.
Artist selection
was based on artwork quality and cultural values represented by
their work. The International Jury assigning recognition and awards
to invited artists was composed of distinguished art critics figures
such as John T. Spike, Art Historian and Critic, Director of The
Biennale since 1998, Florence, New York; Veronika Birke, Art Historian
And Critic, Former Vice-Director of The Graphische Sammlung Albertina,

The fifth
edition of the Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art took place
in the historical Fortezza da Basso. The Opening featured Corteo
Storico Fiorentino and flag-waving performer followed by the President
of the Biennale Opening Speech.
During the
Biennale, internationally renowned artists such one of the founders
of Op Art, Richard Anuszkiewicz, and artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude
all recognised with the Lorenzo il Magnifico award for their Lifetime
Career Achievement.
Richard Anuszkiewicz
one of the leading exponents of Optical Art, or Op Art, which
came to prominence in the mid-1960s. Op Art (a play on the term
Pop Art) usually refers to a collection of geometrical abstractions
that shock and disrupt vision and create a sense of movement or
vibration, changes in spatial direction, or infinite regress.
Mainly intended to evoke responses of the human eye, it is less
concerned with what viewers think or believe they see than it
is with what the artist, employing an array of geometrical and
optical devices, wants the viewers to perceive. These works are
often too quickly identified with the visual illusions that are
found in perceptual psychology textbooks.
Anuszkiewicz
driven by the optical changes that occur when different high-intensity
colors are applied to the same geometric configurations. Each
of his compositions has its own rhythm and, therefore, its own
energy as part of a lyrical composition. He has won many awards
and has been a frequent exhibitor in museums throughout the world.
His work is included in the collections of the Corcoran Gallery
of Art in Washington, D.C., the Fogg Museum of Harvard University
in Cambridge, and the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum
of Modern Art in New York.

Internationally
renowned Christo and Jeanne-Claude, (Christo Javacheff and Jeanne-Claude
de Guillebon) husband and wife, were born on the same day: June
13th, 1935; he in Bulgaria and she in Casablanca. They met and
were married in Paris in 1958. Since 1961 they have together executed
monumental installations in Europe, Asia, Australia and the United
States which have made them among the most widely known and influential
of contemporary artists. In 2005, Christo and Jeanne-Claude completed
their enormously successful project The Gates in New York City.
More than seven thousand gates with saffron coloured fabric panels
formed serpentine walkways in Central Park. Thousands experienced
The Gates during the sixteen days it remained in the park.

After winning
the Lorenzo Maginifico award at the 3rd edition of the Florence
Biennale, Carole A. Feuerman exhibited a special edition of her
famous sculpture Catalina. Created especially for the Biennale,
the new Catalina is 1.5 times the size of the original version
and was placed prominently in the piazza in front of the historic
Fortezza da Basso.

American artist
Carole A. Feuerman is acknowledged, alongside Duane Hanson and
John D'Andrea, to be one of the major American hyper-realist sculptors.
She works in oil painted resin, marble and bronze. Her body of
work ranges from hyper- realist figures to more recent streams
of bronze experiments in deconstruction and abstraction. Her work
is included in such prestigious collections as former President
and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, the Frederic R. Weisman Art
Foundation, Dr. Henry Kissinger, the Michael Gorbachov Art Foundation,
and the Malcolm Forbes Magazine Collection.
The International
Florence Biennale of Contemporary Art, City of Florence, also
gave homage in it's fifth edition to HARLEY-DAVIDSON, precious
interpreter of the legacy between art and technology.

cérémonie de la remise des prix de la Biennale 2005,

canadien, international et chercheur en cancérologie, le
prestigieux prix " Lorenzo il Maginifico " en reconnaissance
de son projet de collecte de fonds artistique et social "

le cancer.

de remise des prix, Antoine
Gaber fut le seul artiste à bénéficier d'une
permission spéciale de la part du président de la
Biennale pour prendre la parole et exprimer ses attentes en regard
du projet " Passion pour la vie "
Dans un court
discours, le message d'Antoine Gaber a touché le cœur
de plusieurs de ses confrères artistes qui lui ont accordé
par la suite leur appui inconditionnel. Ce qui a permis de créer
de nouvelles possibilités à l'échelle internationale
avec d'autres artistes pour développer davantage le projet
" Passion pour la vie " comme force artistique international
pour l'aide à la recherche contre le cancer.
