“Water for Life “ International Art Exhibition
November 7th – 15th, 2019
Universidad Del Caribe, Cancun Mexico
ABOUT WATER FOR LIFE
Water is the primary medium, through which climate change influences Earth’s ecosystem and thus the livelihood and well being of societies.
“WATER FOR LIFE”, is an International cultural and artistic program that showcases around the world a series of artworks inspired by the theme of water.
“WATER FOR LIFE” theme was influenced by the famous underwater mural at the CÁRCAMO DEL RÍO LERMA, by Diego Rivera and his Assistant Rina Lazo. As Rina Lazo stated about “Water for Life”, “I think it is very important that all human beings should have enough water to live with dignity.” She further added; “Diego Rivera painted the mural; Water As The Origin Of Life, to end the thirst of humanity, he would be very proud if he knew about these group exhibitions.”
Through the theme of water, our objective is to raise awareness among the public and children about the important social and cultural issue: “More than a billion individuals – one in seven people on the planet – now lack access to safe drinking water.
Today due to climate change, higher temperatures and changes in extreme weather conditions are projected to affect availability and distribution of rainfall, snowmelt, river flows, groundwater, and further deteriorate water quality.
More floods and severe droughts are predicted. Changes in water availability will also impact health and food security.
The very successful “Water for Life” International Art Exhibition, First Edition started at the Niagara Falls History Museum, as 20% of the fresh water from the world passes through Niagara Falls. The Second Edition was held in the Historical District of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Several award winning and renowned Artists from different Countries participated to these International Art Exhibitions and were selected based on their artistic talent and recognition by international art critics.
“Water for Life”, important cause, has received a significant support of multiple elected officials, and the public as water is the essence of life.
In order to also sensitize Kids and adolescents about the Global issues of drinkable water, “Water for Life” partnered with the “World Day for the Rights of Children and Adolescence”, SECOND EDITION, in November 20th, 2018, in Florence, Italy, and brought this event to an International level. On this date we commemorate when the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1989, the UN Convention for the Rights of Children and Adolescence. This itinerant Children and Adolescents exhibition First opening was at the Prestigious Murate; then at the Fondazione Primo Conti and at the Istituto Superiore “Alberti Dante” in Florence Italy.
“Water for Life” will continue its support to the “World Day for the Rights of Children and Adolescence”, THIRD EDITION, in November 20th, 2019, in Florence, Italy.
The “ Water for Life” International Art Exhibition, Third Edition will be held at the Universidad del Caribe in Cancun, Mexico, from November 7-15th 2019. It will be a unique and cultural activity to engage the International community in support of safe drinking water. In this Edition there are 2 important natural sources that need our protection in the Yucatán Peninsula:
First the Mangroves, particularly the red Mangroves who live between the sea and the land, in areas which are flooded by tides for part of the time. They make up one of the world’s most unique ecosystems because they thrive where no other trees can survive- in transition zone between the ocean and land. That can help reduce the impact of higher sea water level on coastal protection in the face of Global Climate Change.
The second are the thousands of cenotes found in the Mexico Yucatán Peninsula alone. Cenotes are natural swimming holes formed by the collapse of porous limestone bedrock, which has revealed a secret subterranean world of groundwater pools. The Mayas revered cenotes because they were a water source in dry times as most of them are a great source of fresh accessible groundwater that also needs our protection. The “Water For Life” International Art Exhibition, Third Edition, partnered with the Universidad Del Caribe, and collaborated with Centinelas del Agua Association,Río Secreto, Alltournative and Parque Maya.
